Economic Development Commission Minutes
June 5th, 2012
5:00pm City Hall Auditorium
Attendance: Jim Thibault, TJ Zappulla, Greg Mele, Dawn Gutowski, Nancy Sieller, Rose Ponte, Tim Waldron, Patrick Downey
Chairman Jim Thibault opened the meeting at 5:04pm in the City Hall Auditorium.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved on a motion by Greg Mele, seconded by Nancy Sieller.
Rose Ponte had reported that Main Street Market Place would be beginning again for the summer on June 28th, it will run for an extra two weeks this summer and will extend up to Church Street. There will be a plethora of new attractions and vendors this year. Rose had also reported that the mural project is moving forward quickly, the City will be getting 2 murals – one affixed to a building, and another consisting of sculptures around Downtown Torrington.
Jim Thibault reported that the Business Visitation program is still set to begin this Fall. The schedule and list of businesses to visit is still being formalized and suggestions on businesses to visit are welcome.
The EDC website project is moving along swiftly. Jim Thibault reported that the sub committee has been meeting weekly for the past several weeks and has made great progress towards the formation of this website. The goal is to have a website by this fall. Plans will be made to publicize the formation of this website to help draw attention to it.
Rose Ponte updated the group on the Children’s Museum and that the project is carrying on and nothing new to report.
Nancy Sieller had reported to the group that the Torrington Municipal Teachers Federal Credit Union, in coordination with Torrington Parks & Recreation and the Lion’s Club would be presenting a Magic Motion event to be held June 23rd from 11:00am-3:00pm in the Lowe’s parking lot.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Nancy Sieller, seconded by Greg Mele. The meeting was adjourned at 5:49pm.
